Cozy Farm-To-Table Dining In A European Ambiance
From the very beginning, Breakfast Bistro chef Niki Haritos wanted to “flip” the popular bistro at night into a more formal restaurant with a different menu. The trouble was, in its original location, “we had zero space for prepping an extra menu.” But Breakfast Bistro’s new spot has that space, so last fall the dream became reality — Luna Kitchen + Bar.
A defining feature is the European ambiance — something Haritos wanted because she grew up in Europe. “What I really missed about buildings in Europe is that there are windows everywhere,” she says. Luna has windows in abundance, wrapping around the entire length of the restaurant, offering a view over a small lake. The 60-person deck just outside those windows is the perfect place to enjoy an fresh-air meal, cut off from the busy world.
The European ambiance continues inside with a cozy fireplace and light fixtures with vintage bulbs that give a warm, candle-like glow. Paintings by Saskatchewan artist Michaela Hoppe show scenes from Italy and Greece. For special occasions, there’s a private room than can comfortably seat 30.
Of course, the heart of any restaurant is its food, and there, too, Luna shines. “It’s farm-to-table,” Haritos says, highlighting local ingredients in everything from steaks (using the highest-grade beef) to duck, trout, made-from-scratch pastas, and made-fresh-daily soups.
Even the gin for the signature cocktails is infused in-house, with everything from strawberries to Earl Gray tea. “Way better than store-bought,” Haritos says.
Combining casual comfort with an elegant European feel and fresh, homemade, farm-to-table food, Luna Restaurant + Bar is Regina’s most exciting new restaurant — a true culinary treasure.
